LAKE TITICACA, LLACHON AND TAQUILE ISLAND (3 days)

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world (3800m / 12.468f). On its waters lies the island of Taquile, anciently inhabited by pre-Inca races that left ruins, a large amount of terracing and an impressive network of trails around the entire island. The people of these islands are proud of keeping alive their customs, dress, language and a unique political and social organization. During these three days we will visit the most remote shores of the lake, sleep in a rural lodge, kayak around Taquile Island and walk the ancient pre-Inca trails. Deep connection with nature and interaction with the local people are some of the highlights of this trip.

The itinerary for day 01 is adjusted to the itinerary of the clients. No matter if they fly to Juliaca, come from Cusco by land or arrive from the Colca Canyon.

Day 01 – Llachón Peninsula

We are picked up from Puno or Juliaca, and are driven to the Llachón Peninsula, located two and a half hours away from Puno. We spend the night in this community, sleeping in a family owned rural lodge. At night we enjoy an exquisite and healthy dinner prepared by our hosts.

Meals: D
Accommodation: Rural Lodge

Day 02 – Taquile Island

After breakfast a small boat loaded with our luggage and sea kayaks is waiting for us in front of the hotel. Within one hour the boat takes us to Taquile Island. On arrival to the island we begin our kayak trip along the west edge of the island. We row for an hour and a half until arriving in Kullate, a white sand beach with beautiful views of the Bolivian Royal Mountain Range. Here our local guide welcomes us and leads us to his house where we find a delicious local lunch prepared by his family.

During the afternoon our guide leads us in a nice walk through pre-Inca trails. The hike allows us to observe ancient ruins, native flora, and get to learn a little bit more about the local inhabitant’s way of life. Back in Kullate camping site, a great dinner is waiting for us and our tents are all set up for the night.

Meals: B, L, D
Accommodation: Camping

Day 03 – Taquile Island – Llachón - Puno

After an energy breakfast we row around the east side of the island towards our last day’s departure point. Here we load the kayaks on our small boat and start the way back to Llachón where we have lunch. After lunch our boat trip continues for another hour to the Uros floating islands.
