PERU MULTIACTIVITY (15 DAYS)River rafting, sea kayaking, mountain biking, different short walks and some horse riding, are the activities to be enjoyed by the traveller choosing this entertaining program. We will go through the most important attractions in south Peru, but will do it far away from the traditional circuit. Among the special places to be visited is the exclusive alpaca hacienda of Malkini. Day 1 – Arrival in LimaLima is the main city and by far the biggest one in Peru. It is located on the Pacific Ocean coast, on latitude where the water is cold and therefore rich in plankton and animal resources. Through its traditional architecture, Lima city lets the visitor have a glimpse of its past as capital of the Spanish colonies in South America. Probably one of the most important highlights of this City is its extraordinary cuisine, which reflects the diversity of a nation that has mixed its native and Spanish traditions with the cuisines of all over the world. Depending on our international flight arrival time, we may enjoy some of the delightful dishes that this city has to offer. Accommodation: Hotel in Lima Day 2 – Lima – ArequipaToday we take our flight to Arequipa, known as the “White City” due to the colour of the volcanic stone used in its construction. Located at approximately 2,400 meters above sea level (7870f), Arequipa is a great place to start to acclimatise to the altitude. Today we recommend taking things easy. As part of the acclimatisation process it is worth walking around the streets in the city and visiting some of its attractions Meals: B Day 3 – Arequipa River Rafting – Colca CanyonAfter having recovered from the long journey and having acclimatised sufficiently to the altitude, we are ready to begin our activities. We start with an exhilarating one and a half hour river rafting trip. The river is narrow, quite fast flowing, and full of class II, III and IV rapids. Immediately after the rafting our transport is waiting to take us on the four hour trip to the famous Colca Canyon. In the afternoon we can enjoy the delicious thermal baths. Meals: B, L Day 4 – Colca Canyon ExplorationToday we get up very early to begin our trip to the deepest part of the canyon. The look out point of “Cruz del Condor” or Cross of the Condor allows us to observe these giant birds rise up from the depths of the canyon. After admiring this spectacle, we take our bikes and begin what will be a long and enjoyable descent into the town of Yanque. Along the way we occasionally stop to admire small colonial towns, Inca terraces and other places of interest. In the afternoon we may relax once more in the thermal baths. Meals: B, L Day 5 – Colca – LlachónToday we spend most of the time traveling from Chivay towards Llachón, a small village located in the peninsula of Capachica in Lake Titicaca shores. The overlanding trip goes through beautiful and diverse scenery. We spend the night in a family owned rural lodge, where we have a glimpse of how the local people live and find the opportunity to share the evening with our hosts. Meals: B, L, D Day 6 – Sea Kayak Taquile IslandWe start our day with a nutritious breakfast in the rustic dining room of the house, enjoying the wonderful views of the lake. Once in the water we marvel at the clarity of the lake, with views of the crystal blue-green waters as we paddle along the shore and out to the island of Taquile – a unique sensation. We arrive at the Island and find the chance to walk around the village and the terraced landscape. A typical lunch on the shores of the lake before we paddle back to shore gives us plenty of photo opportunities. Meals: B, L, D Day 7 – Llachón – MalkiniAfter our last breakfast in the lake, we continue our trip towards our next destination, Malkini Hacienda. Remote dirt tracks guide us to the comfortable hacienda. Once we have settled in and during the lunch we find the time to plan our activities for the afternoon. We may be up for a short walk or perhaps for a quiet rest in the house terrace. No matter what we choose, the lonely and peaceful landscapes amaze us with its breathtaking beauty. At night we enjoy a delicious dinner and have the chance to gather around a nice warm fire. Meals: B, L, D Day 8 – MalkiniThe recommendation for today is that we get up very early to watch the sunrise over the “altiplano”. After a succulent breakfast we can go in our 4x4 to the boundaries of the hacienda to watch and learn about the running of the farm and the breeding of alpacas. After lunch and a well deserved rest we can horse ride to a small lake, where we enjoy the spectacular views of the light at sunset. Meals: B, L, D Day 9 – Malkini – CuscoThis is our last day at the hacienda. We are not in a hurry, so we can take our time for breakfast, after which we say goodbye to our hosts and take the road towards Cusco.
